protein shakes p90x

Is it normal to gain weight with P90X?
Starting out, I weighed 171-174.
I’ve been using P90X for about three days now and I weigh 178.
Is that even normal?
I thought you were supposed to lose weight with P90X, not gain it.
But, perhaps, muscle weighs more. Although, I couldn’t have gained any muscle THAT fast.
Is this normal or not?
I’m not on any protein shakes at the moment.
I’ve done P90X for about 6 weeks and I gained weight immediately too. Other friends have had the same issue. There are a few things that could be happening:
If your muscles are screaming like mine were, all the lactic acid from the muscle tears adds liquid weight.
A friend of mine started to retain water since she went on a high protein diet at the same time.
You could have some GI issues as well.
It’s a better idea to weigh yourself weekly and no more frequently than that. I made myself crazy weighing every day and noticing a gain of 2 pounds, a loss of a half, a gain of three, loss of 4…etc…
Hang in there. I dropped 15 pounds by the end of week 3. Loss is slower now, but I had a lot to lose. Good luck!
