My son wants to be a SEAL, what more should he be doing?

He does P90X, and every muscle building day he runs too (today he went 3.25 miles), He swims competitively, and plays lacrosse. He wanted to do crossfit too, but i dont know a lot about that.
He only 15, so just wondering what he should be doing.

I’m not a SEAL but I am a sailor and have trained with SEALS many times.

If you want to be proactive, it sounds like he is doing a great job as it is. Swimming is very important of course and running too. I would also think that willpower would be one of the greatest attributes, he is going to have to stand up to tremendous pressure at times.

As far as things he can practice, he may want to do some boxing or martial arts, improve his physical co-ordination as far as hand-to-hand combat. He will also have to be a marksman. If he doesn’t know how to shoot, it isn’t as easy as it looks. It would be beneficial to practice with both pistols and rifles.

Another thing you can do is to read about the training. Look around on the net and see what you can find. Much of it is not publicized but you can prepare yourself for much of it and keep in mind that most people who apply for SEAL training either end up getting dropped from the training or getting dropped on request.

One last thing, before you get your hopes up, get a test and make sure he has no color-blindness (sleep-walking is a killer too). Color blindness is one of the things that can really limit your options in the Navy. (consider what would happen if color blind person had to diffuse a bomb, or what would happen to a sleep-walker on a ship in the middle of the ocean :)
